Gather 3 or more people per team to play a traditional game of dodgeball. If you have fewer than 4 players per side, you may ask one or more players to join another team.

- Avoid crossing the center line when approaching the court to throw a ball. If you do, you will be penalized for being called for an illegal maneuver.
- No ball throwing should occur at another player or when a player is on the ground.
Tag out all of the opposing players
The object of the game is to be the team with players who are left on the court. If your team tags all of the opposing team’s players, then your team wins.
- Even if you only have one player left on the court and the other team has no players left, your team wins because you’re still playing.
- You may switch sides after each game if you prefer.
Using a Circular Dodgeball Court
You can create a large or extra-large circle on the edge of a basketball court, using an extra-large jump rope to form a semi-circle. Once the court is marked with X’s, you can use chalk or tape to create an outline for each player who will be on the outside of the court.
This will help you keep track as you move through your game plan.
- If you play on a court that already has circles on it, you may choose to make that court circular.
- A circle of at least 10 feet (3.0 meters) in diameter should be drawn around the object.
Let half your players play on the court and the other half outside
When you play dodgeball, the more players there are on the court, the harder it will be to dodge balls. To keep the game fair and ensure that one team doesn’t have an advantage over another.
